As you will be aware, The Sanders Draper School first opened in 1938 as the Suttons School - with separate schooling for boys and girls in the same building. The 70th year of our school will see the continuing transformation of the facilities we provide for teaching and learning. Plans are being produced for the rebuilding of the Technology department, Maths department, Reception and the Canteen.
These plans are subject to funding and will be part of the 3 year budget programme being produced by the Bursar/School Business Manager.
We have plans for a celebration and a reunion later in the year for all staff and students who have attended the school.

We are really pleased to announce the latest set of exam results for Year 11 students. In November 2007, all Year 11 students sat their English Langauge GCSE examination. 64% of the students achieved A* - C grades at the first attempt.
Congratulations to the students and their English teachers. Students were given the good news at the latest Year 11 Parents Evening on Thursday 17th January. The Hall was full of nervous students (and equally nervous parents and carers) at the start of the evening and whoops of delight half an hour later!
GCSE Science revision guides were on sale and these are still available in school to any Year 11 student.
The next key event for Year 11 students is the Parents Evening on Thursday 7th February from 4.30pm.

Well done to students and staff for getting into the spirit of the day by doing crazy things with their hair. We raised £572 for Children in Need - a great result.

Letter to students from OFSTED
4th May 2007
Dear Students
Inspection of The Sanders Draper School and Specialist Science College, Suttons Lane, Hornchurch RM12 6RT
Thank you for welcoming the inspection team to your school. We spoke with many of you at break times and in group discussions and appreciated your honest responses to our questions.
We agree with you that Sanders Draper School is a place where you are valued for your individuality and are treated with respect.
We judged the following as strengths of the school
- The standards and the amount of progress you make in English, maths and science in Years 10 and 11
- The proportion of students who achieved 5 passes at A-G and who achieved one pass at GCSE last ...

The Lord Mayor's Show
Well done to the students from the Sanders Draper School who took part in the Lord Mayor's Show on Saturday 10th November 2007. The members of our Signing Choir worked with students from The Albany School to present new songs at the same time as parading through the streets of the city.
They were on one of the floats sponsored by The Jack Petchey Foundation. The BBC 1 presenter said that this was his favourite float. Well done to all.

School Council Response
Dear Students,
As you are aware, OFSTED have recently visited our school. As members for the School Council, we believe that as a school we should have achieved higher standards than the findings of the inspection.
Firstly OFSTED did not visit the many 'highlights' of the school. For example, observe all of our lessons and did not visit the all important Ecology Centre. Additionally, they did not visit any assemblies which we feel are a splendid way for teachers to connect with students and inform students of most recent news and events.
As a school, we work together and take pride to make Sanders the very best and we do not feel that OFSTED gave us the opportunity to show off our school.
We are determined, in the future, to change this and prove that Sanders Draper is an excellent school.
As members of the School Council we expect all students to play the ...

OFSTED Response from Head teacher
The OFSTED Inspection took place over two days (25th and 26th April 2007). A number of different meetings were held with staff, students, the Senior Leadership Team, the School Improvement Partner and Chair of Governors.
The inspectors judged the overall effectiveness of the school to be satisfactory. The inspectors acknowledged the good work that is taking place to improve standards but, as the impact of this work cannot be measured yet, they were unable to reflect it in their grading. However, it is reflected in the text of the final report and this provides a useful assurance that we are doing the right things.
Quotes from the INSECTION REPORT
"Standards have been maintained and are at the national average. There are areas with higher than average standards such as the proportion of students who achieve 5 A-G passes at GCSE and in some subjects".& ...
