FRIDAY 11th JULY

What is Big Dance?
Big Dance 2008 is a week-long celebration of dance in all its styles and forms and is open to everyone to join in!

Big Dance aims to get as many people dancing as possible in the lead up to the event, throughout the week itself and also to encourage people to keep dancing all year round.
School Pledge
The ‘School Pledge’ aims to encourage schools to commit to organising 5 x 15 minutes of dance activity for students during Big Dance week.

The Sanders Draper Year 10 GCSE Dance Group represented the school at the Big Dance Launch Event on 23rd May in Upminster Park. The Head Boy and Head Girl completed the school pledge on behalf of Sanders Draper School in front of all present – including BBC Radio London.

The Sanders Draper School
The Dance Department have choreographed a dance that has been taught to 30 year 9 students. We want all members of our community to be involved in the day – including Governors.

Staff are currently being taught and all students are being taught in PE lessons. Year 9 students are advertising the event in every assembly this week and I am running a number of rehearsals for staff and students to learn and rehearse the Dance.

A number of students are going into form groups next week to assist the form tutor in getting the form to dance for 15 minutes a day. The following week, year groups will be asked to perform together. Therefore ensuring we meet the requirements of the pledge.

What are we working towards?
On the 11th July at 2.30pm, all members of The Sanders Draper School will move onto the school field where we will take part in a 15 minute workshop (Dance Warm Up) run by the organisers of Big Dance. The whole school will then dance the choreographed dance. Press and cameras are being invited to our school by the event organiser, Catherine Slater (Local Authority PE Adviser).

THE BIG DANCE DAY

The Event went well and a good time was had by all as you can see from the Photos below
